EP 2

by Smile Too Much

supported by

Fran Carlyon thumbnail
Fran Carlyon Evoking the halcyon days of early nineties indie when it felt as if the right chord change could alter the trajectory of your life, it can’t be easy making it sound this EASY. That unique Bay Area spirit is fully intact, and soul seeps from Smile Too Much’s every heavy hearted note. Favorite track: You Can't Help Me.

Oakland quartet Smile Too Much return with their second self-titled EP of beautifully gauzy fuzz pop. On EP 2, the band forges an even deeper and more soulful version of the distortion drenched indie ballads from their 2021 debut. Deftly combining the sharp melodic instincts of Teenage Fanclub, lead guitar lines that recall J. Mascis at his most sunburnt and sweetly poignant co-ed vocals with lyrics as weary and romantic as Jason Molina, Smile Too Much situate themselves firmly in the Bay Area bummer rock tradition.
